KA `OHANA-The Family In the Hawaiian culture the bonds of the extended family give rise the the true meaning of the spirit of aloha, a love and graciousness shown toward others. Family is very important and this importance is shown in all parts of island living. Groups of people with a common bond, like hula halaus or canoe clubs, refer to themselves as `ohana. Janet refers to her clients, friends, and paintings as her `ohana.

NA  KEIKI-The Children   Janet has an extraordinary gift for capturing the expressions and tenderness of children. NA PANIOLO- The Cowboys Hawaiians have had a romance with the cowboy ( or paniolo) life since cattle ranching began in the islands. Traditionally cattle herds were led from the land into the sea where paniolos, still on horseback, would swim them out to waiting barges. This piece of history is celebrated in several of Janet's paintings.

NA HO`OMANAO- Commeratives The work of Janet Stewart is well known throughout Hawaii. She has been commissioned to paint portraits of such notables as Jeanette and Harry Weinberg, Queen Liliu`okalani, the Righteous Brothers, and most recently the Governor of Samoa. She also has been commissioned to commemorate special events such as the total eclipse of the sun in '91. Her collaborations with other artists, like Wyland, are also a favorite.
